Two organisations dedicated to making life better in Islington have teamed up.

The Local Buyers Club, a discount card promoting independent businesses, is working closely with Islington Giving, an organisation helping those experiencing poverty, mental illness or isolation.

Residents have just days to speak out against harmful road closures that will increase traffic and pollution at seven schools and seven nurseries.

A new nursery is opening in Stoke Newington this summer and staff say community is at the heart of their ethos.

Bright Horizons, who have been looking for a space in N16 for years, are converting the former Health Care Centre Anita House in Wilmer Place, into a nursery with space for 92 children.

Pupils in Stoke Newington have teamed up with popular children’s illustrator Al Murphy to create a map of low-pollution walking routes.

The map, which highlights the area’s most polluted streets and suggests alternative cleaner routes, was put together by Year 4 children at William Patten Primary School.  It’s being distributed via schools and nurseries to thousands of children in the area.

Thousands of children experiencing poverty in North London will have a special gift to open this winter after an overwhelming response to the Local Buyers Club's annual toy appeal.


Around 5,000 gifts were donated to the Winter Toy and Food Appeal, which is run by the Local Buyers Club with support from Location Location estate agency.
