After years of planning and fundraising, the new St Mary's Centre N16 has opened at the back of St Mary's Church.

What a space!!! The architects have designed something really special: a massive hall that can be divided into smaller spaces, a beautiful kitchen and smaller conference rooms and brilliant loos!

Designing a building that sits so well with the church was quite a challenge but they've done a great job. These pics give...

Residents have just days to speak out against harmful road closures that will increase traffic and pollution at seven schools and seven nurseries.

If it goes ahead, Hackney Council's Walford Road closure scheme will tip three schools over the legal pollution limit, according to data contained in their CERC Air Quality and Traffic Model into the impacts of the scheme.

Among the schools set for more pollution are St Mary's, W...

A new nursery is opening in Stoke Newington this summer and staff say community is at the heart of their ethos.

Bright Horizons, who have been looking for a space in N16 for years, are converting the former Health Care Centre Anita House in Wilmer Place, into a nursery with space for 92 children.

StokeyParents met with Senior Nursery Manager Paul Fitzpatrick-Spinks to learn more.

He said: “Wilmer Place seems the perfect location...

The latest apparent error by Hackney Council around air quality at schools rings major alarm bells and is enough to convince me that children are far from its priority.

In the past year the council has:

- Incorrectly measured the distances between school facades and pollution monitors, (which could be used to make schools appear less polluted),

- Used a less stringent pollution limit for school playgrounds than other local auth...

This year my New Year’s Resolution was not to give up anything!

The barrage of adverts on social media this January about how much weight we could all lose if we gave up this or that or went on some bonkers diet was exhausting and I can’t help but wonder by now how many people will already have given up giving things up.

This constant pressure to be thinner, to exercise more to not eat meat or drink wine or eat sugar or junk is...

The map, which highlights the area’s most polluted streets and suggests alternative cleaner routes, was put together by Year 4 children at William Patten Primary School.  It’s being distributed via schools and nurseries to thousands of children in the area.

The children used personal exposure mo...

Hackney Council is being urged to scrap a controversial road closure plan after admitting they  underestimated the likely impact on Stoke Newington Church Street.

Despite claiming publicly and in its consultation that closing Walford, Beatty, Brighton or Barbauld Roads would “at worst” displace an extra 564 vehicles to Church Street, Council officers have now come up with new data, which reveals the figure could be 2,080 extra...
