Egg-cellent and innovative new restaurant in Stokey

Stoke Newington’s culinary scene is undergoing a radical transformation and The Good Egg, one of the newest restaurants to open on Church Street, is a breath of fresh air.

We headed there on a wintery night and were struck by the transformation from grotty betting shop to rustic restaurant with soft lighting and a buzzing atmosphere packed with couples and groups.

The menu offers something very different – fabulous Middle Eastern flavours and fun and unusual cocktails.

We ordered whitefish croquettes, Za’atar fried chicken, Iraqi Aubergine Pita, Purple Broccoli with Tahini and Dak Dak Salad (pine nuts, seeds, kohlrabi, cucumber, tomato and pomegranate).

Everything was packed with flavour… dill, poppy seeds, chilli and mango gave the food a wonderful zing and the meat was melt-in-the-mouth perfection.

To drink we had Pomegranate Paloma (Martina Rosso, pomegranate molasses and soda) and Promenade (gin, almond syrup, lime and arak). Both were excellent and very moreish.

Whether you’re looking for somewhere fabulous and unusual to eat brunch or somewhere different and ambient for dinner, we love The Good Egg and can highly recommend it.
