Please help make sure Santa visits every child in Hackney this winter

Winter Toy and Food Appeal 2018

We’re collecting new toys and food for Hackney’s poorest families this winter.

For the fifth year running StokeyParents and the Local Buyers Club have teamed up with the Ivy Street Family Centre to distribute the toys via an incredible network and with Location Location estate agency on Church Street as a place to donate.

More than 1,800 children in Hackney live in temporary accommodation. An estimated 42% of local children live in poverty.

By working directly with teachers, social workers and support workers and a network of schools, refuges, hostels, children’s centres and hospitals we’re able to ensure the toys we collect go to East London’s poorest children.  This year every Headteacher in Hackney will have the opportunity to nominate children who may be eligible for a gift.

Last year we collected for more than 4,000 children. Every child in hostel or temporary accommodation received a gift. This year it's a depressing fact that more are in desperate need.  The conditions some members of our community are enduring are truly terrible: families of four in a one-room flat, damp, not enough food and often miles from their children's schools.

Please donate your gift and non-perishable food by December 17th.

If your company or school would like to support the appeal please get in touch (news@stokeyparents.com

Our Wish List

The Ivy Street Family Centre, which distributes the toys, has spoken to social workers and other key staff to get an idea of the ages and interests of the children we're collecting for.

Their Amazon Wish List is the best indication of what to buy and of course we'd love you to shop local instead if you'd like. But the key things to know are we are only collecting new toys and gifts - we aren't collecting clothes or second hand toys. www.toyappealwishlist.com
